Historians have recently discovered a manuscript in the archives in Rome that seems to indicate that when they were building Hadrian's Wall the Romans also built a tunnel that ran underneath it. Lost for millennia parts of the tunnel running beneath Newcastle City Centre to the quayside were rediscovered in the 1830's by engineers tasked with building the Victoria Tunnel, a coal wagonway. This special tour, for one day only, will tell the story of the Roman Tunnel and the subsequent uses of the tunnel in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Tour duration 2 hours. Tickets £12 per person, numbers limited so please book on the calendar below.
